ProSource ZAC™ combines the efficiency of hydrolyzed collagen and whey protein for a concentrated, low volume, high protein supplement containing17 grams of protein, 60 calories, 10 mg of zinc, 3.2 grams of arginine and 175 mg of vitamin C.
ProSource Liquid's hydrolyzed protein is broken down by enzymes into free amino acids and polypeptides that are easily digested and absorbed by the intestines. ZAC is an effective protein for Stage 1 and Stage 2 pressure ulcers.
ProSource ZAC works to meet the increased protein needs during periods of metabolic stress or inadequate intake allowing for maintenance or restoration of body protein stores. Assessment of protein status is performed as part of the baseline nutrition evaluation and to assess risk for protein malnutrition and skin failure. A resident's protein status indicates the person's ability to synthesize non-essential amino acids and to absorb and utilize essential amino acids. As protein status declines the resident is at higher risk for pressure ulcer development, poor wound healing, and infection. Under normal conditions, intact or whole dietary proteins (long chains of amino acids known as polypeptides) are hydrolyzed by digestive enzymes. Enzymatic hydrolysis "digests" or breaks down whole proteins into smaller components of amino acids and peptides to facilitate absorption. Metabolic stress reduces digestive enzyme availability and activity, Liquid ProSource is a complete hydrolyzed protein proving all the dispensable and indispensable amino acids required for protein building (transamination) in a concentrated, sugar free form that requires fewer digestive enzymes for absorption than intact protein. ProSource ZAC is sugar free and low in phosphorous, potassium and sodium and complies with the majority of dietary restrictions.

Dosing
The daily dose of ProSource ZAC™ is determined based on the resident's intake and individual needs as assessed by the dietitian or qualified healthcare provider. However, in general, two to four servings (30mls) per day is suggested. The amount of ProSource ZAC dispensed per serving can also be adjusted to meet individual needs, i.e. instead of 30mls three times a day, 45 mLs twice day could be given.
For pressure ulcers or surgical wounds with moderate to heavy drainage a minimum of 3 to 4 servings (30mls each) is suggested to help replace protein lost in the wound drainage.
For renal disease: Uremic malnutrition as seen in renal disease is associated with loss of appetite and nutrient malabsorption, with those on dialysis also experiencing protein loss during treatment. A minimum of 30 mLs twice a day is suggested to enhance protein absorption with inflammation and to replace protein loses for those residents receiving dialysis (HD or PD).
For clear liquid diets a minimum of 3 servings (30mls each) a day is suggested.
Oral Dosing: ProSource Protein ZAC as a med pass directly from the bottle or add it to all types of beverages, soups, hot and cold foods, purees. It is ideal for both open and closed tube feeding systems and virtually eliminates clogged feeding tubes. The products save nursing time, storage space, waste, and kitchen labor. Unlike powdered protein supplements, it mixes easily into all liquids and moist foods.
Tube Feeding: Flush feeding tube with water. Infuse 30 mL of ProSource via syringe down feeding tube. Flush with an additional 30 mL of water.
